EA SPORTS FC 27 download stuck in the EA app: causes and solutions

Tutorial

On PC, the download or installation of EA SPORTS FC 27 (often searched for as "FIFA 27") gets stuck in the EA app: the percentage stops moving, the status stays on "Waiting for download", the download freezes at 4 GB, or an error appears during installation. This guide follows EA Help's troubleshooting order for games bought or installed through the EA app, based on the articles listed at the end of the topic, checked on October 27, 2026. If the EA app does not open at all, see EA app won't launch on Windows: solutions (guide in French) instead.

Problem

  • The EA SPORTS FC 27 download stops at a given percentage or stays on "Waiting for download".
  • The download freezes at 4 GB.
  • The message "Create Folder Error" appears while installing, updating or repairing the game.
  • The EA app says the game is still preparing and will not launch it.

What EA says

SymptomCause or fix stated by EA

Prerequisites

Step 1: Clear the EA app cache

When to use it: the download is stuck at a percentage, on "Waiting for download", or the EA app stays in offline mode.

Suggested solution

  1. In the EA app, select the three dashes in the far-left corner, scroll to Help and choose App Recovery.
  2. Select Clear Cache.
  3. If the EA app won't open: Start menu > All Apps > EA folder > App Recovery, then confirm with Clear Cache.
  4. Restart the EA app and resume the EA SPORTS FC 27 download.

Expected result: the download resumes and the progress moves again.

Step 2: Check the drive format if the download freezes at 4 GB

When to use it: the progress always stops around 4 GB.

Suggested solution

  1. In File Explorer, right-click the install drive, open Properties and look at the file system shown.
  2. If it says FAT32, the drive can't hold files larger than 4 GiB, as confirmed by Microsoft's file system comparison.
  3. Install EA SPORTS FC 27 on an NTFS drive. Reformatting a drive erases all its data: back it up first.

Expected result: the download goes past 4 GB on an NTFS drive.

Step 3: Reinstall the EA app or run it as an administrator

When to use it: the download finishes but the installation fails, while your connection and the servers are working.

Suggested solution

  1. Close the EA app, right-click its icon and choose Run As Administrator, then start the installation again.
  2. If that is not enough, close the EA app, open Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program and uninstall the EA app.
  3. Download the EA app again from EA's official website, install it, then try installing the game again.

Expected result: the EA SPORTS FC 27 installation completes.

Step 4: Fix the "Create Folder Error"

When to use it: this message appears while installing, updating or repairing the game.

Suggested solution

  1. Open File Explorer, right-click the game folder and choose Properties.
  2. On the Security tab, select Advanced and check that the SYSTEM account has full control of the folder.
  3. If not, go back to the Security tab, select Edit, choose SYSTEM, check Allow next to Full control, then select Apply.
  4. Start the installation or update again in the EA app.

Expected result: the error no longer appears and the installation continues.

Step 5: Repair the game if it is installed but won't launch

When to use it: EA SPORTS FC 27 shows as installed but won't load, or the EA app stays on preparing the game.

Suggested solution

  1. In the EA app, open your Library, select the three-dot menu on the EA SPORTS FC 27 tile, then Repair.
  2. To test, turn off the overlay: profile thumbnail > Settings > Application > In-game overlay toggle. Turn it back on afterwards, since EA says you need it for game invites and messages.
  3. If the EA app stays stuck on preparing the game: clear the cache (step 1), close background apps, install Windows and graphics driver updates, then try a clean boot of Windows.
  4. If the problem continues, contact EA Help; if they ask you to, use the EA Error Reporter in the EA app.

Expected result: EA SPORTS FC 27 launches from the Library.

Final check

  • ☐ At least 100 GB are free on the install drive.
  • ☐ The EA app cache was cleared with App Recovery.
  • ☐ The install drive uses NTFS, not FAT32.
  • ☐ The SYSTEM account has full control of the game folder.
  • ☐ The game was repaired from the Library.
