Windows 11 restore summary: what Settings backup shows after you restore
On Windows 11 24H2 and later, enterprise Windows settings backup and restore can show a restore summary of personalization settings and Store apps — about one hour after restore, for seven days.
Microsoft documents a restore summary for Windows settings backup and restore on Windows 11 version 24H2 and later. After a restore during device setup (OOBE) or first sign-in, eligible users can review what came back from the selected backup profile — mainly restored personalization settings and the associated Microsoft Store app list.
This feature belongs to the enterprise Windows settings backup and restore experience (Microsoft Entra joined or hybrid-joined devices under administrator policies). It is not the same product as consumer OneDrive “Windows Backup.” Do not treat this article as proof that the summary is available on unmanaged consumer PCs.
A Microsoft 365 Message Center note dated 2 November 2026 introduced the restore summary for Windows 11 24H2 and later, highlighting clearer visibility of restored personalization settings and the Store app list after restore.
What the restore summary shows
According to Microsoft Learn, the restore summary is an on-device view of content restored from the selected backup profile. It includes:
- Personalization settings restored from the user’s backup profile
- The Microsoft Store app list associated with that backup profile and restored to the device
Microsoft notes that the summary primarily lists restored user-customized personalization settings and the Store app list. In some cases it also displays settings that still have their default values (not customized by the user). That behavior is by design.
When it appears and how long it stays
After restore completes and you reach the Windows desktop:
- A restore summary notification can appear on the device, or
- You can open Settings > Accounts > Windows backup and use the restore summary entry documented there (Learn describes selecting View from the notification, or the link icon next to Restore summary in Settings)
Availability window documented by Microsoft:
- The summary becomes available approximately one hour after a successful restore
- It remains viewable for seven days after device setup
- After that visibility period expires, the restore summary is no longer viewable
Who this is for (enterprise scope)
Windows settings backup and restore is documented as an enterprise-grade capability: backups target users signed in with Microsoft Entra ID on Entra joined or Entra hybrid joined devices, with backup and restore policies configured by IT. Restore can run during OOBE or at first sign-in when policies and profiles allow it.
If you only use consumer OneDrive backup on a personal PC, do not assume this restore summary applies. Microsoft’s Learn overview for Windows settings backup and restore is the authoritative scope for the facts above.
This article does not rehash Cloud rebuild or the File Explorer customizable context menu from KB5127936 — those are separate Windows 11 features already covered on TricknFix.
No hands-on restore test is claimed. Facts follow Microsoft Learn (Windows settings backup and restore overview, restore summary sections) and the 2 November 2026 Message Center note, as consulted on 6 November 2026 (Europe/Paris).
