Optional preview KB5127936 (October 28, 2026) adds a faster, customizable File Explorer context menu for Windows 11 25H2 and 26H2 — gradual rollout.

Windows 11 File Explorer is getting a faster, simpler, more customizable context menu in optional preview KB5127936 (October 28, 2026; OS builds 26300.9818 and 26200.9818) for versions 25H2 and 26H2. Microsoft documents a gradual rollout, so the feature may not appear on every eligible PC at once.

This article covers the File Explorer context-menu changes only. The same KB also introduces Cloud rebuild; that recovery option is already documented in a separate TricknFix guide linked in the sources.

What changes when you right-click

Microsoft describes an updated context menu that opens more quickly, reduces clutter, and gives more control over the commands and app extensions shown when you right-click. No action is required to keep the default layout.

At the bottom of the menu, select Customize menu to open its Settings page. From there you can:

  • Turn built-in Windows commands such as Send to and Create shortcut on or off
  • Add commands such as Print to the context menu
  • Choose which app extensions appear in the main menu or a submenu, or hide the app extensions submenu
  • Display Cut, Copy, Paste, Rename, Delete, and Share as menu items instead of a row of icons
  • Move Properties to the bottom of the context menu

To see more options, Microsoft still documents holding Shift and right-clicking on the desktop.

Who gets it, and how optional it is

KB5127936 is a non-security preview for Windows 11 25H2 and 26H2 (all editions listed on the Support page). Availability of the updated menu follows a gradual rollout: features reach devices over time, so presence varies by device.

Microsoft also notes that starting with the October 2026 release, Windows 11 version 24H2 no longer receives non-security preview updates. 24H2 Enterprise and Education continue to receive monthly security updates, but not this class of preview package.

Typical consumer path documented on the KB page: Start > Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates, then install the available optional update if offered. Managed PCs should follow the organisation’s deployment process. Prerequisite updates and servicing-stack requirements are listed on the KB; this article does not invent additional Settings paths beyond what Microsoft documents for opening Customize menu.

What this article does not cover

Do not treat this page as a full KB changelog. AutoPlay, Magnifier, Live Captions, Cloud rebuild, VPN, USB Audio, PowerShell shortcut naming and other items in KB5127936 are out of scope here. For Cloud rebuild (Rebuild PC), see the existing TricknFix article linked below.

No invented FPS gains, success rates or hands-on UI screenshots are claimed. Facts follow the Microsoft Support page for KB5127936 as consulted on November 6, 2026 (Europe/Paris).
