Windows 11 policy-based in-box app removal now supports multi-session (KB5127936)
Optional preview KB5127936 (October 28, 2026) documents that policy-based in-box app removal now supports multi-session environments for Windows 11 Enterprise and Education (normal rollout). Learn overview (last updated 2026-05-01 on the fetched page) covers how the existing opt-in MDM/GP policy works on 24H2+ managed devices.
Windows 11 policy-based in-box app removal gains a normal-rollout [App management] New! item in optional preview KB5127936 (October 28, 2026; OS builds 26300.9818 and 26200.9818) for versions 25H2 and 26H2: the existing capability now supports multi-session environments for Enterprise and Education devices.
This News brief is for IT / managed-PC readers. It separates what KB5127936 newly documents (multi-session support) from how the policy generally works per Microsoft Learn (page last updated 2026-05-01 on the copy fetched for this brief — do not invent a KB5127936 date on Learn). No hands-on Intune/GPO lab, no invented static-app list, and no claim that Home or Pro get this feature are made. Facts follow the Microsoft Support page for KB5127936 and the Learn overview as consulted on 6 November 2026 (Europe/Paris).
What KB5127936 newly documents (App management)
Under normal rollout [App management], Microsoft documents:
- New! multi-session support — Policy-based in-box app removal now supports multi-session environments.
- Who it is for — IT administrators can use the existing policy-based app removal capability to manage removal of supported in-box apps on Windows 11 Enterprise and Education devices in multi-session environments.
- Learn more pointer — The KB points to Microsoft’s Policy-based in-box app removal Learn article for further detail.
Attribute this New! multi-session claim to KB5127936 only. The same KB’s change log notes that a duplicate App Management release note was removed from the gradual-rollout section so the note appears only under normal rollout — treat the feature as normal-rollout, not gradual.
How the policy generally works (Microsoft Learn overview)
Separately from the October 2026 KB New! wording, Microsoft Learn describes the existing policy-based in-box app removal feature (fetched page last updated 2026-05-01). Use Learn for mechanism — not as a claim that Learn was updated for KB5127936:
- What it does — Lets IT remove certain preinstalled Microsoft Store apps via a static list and other MSIX/APPX-packaged apps via a dynamic app removal list.
- Editions — Enterprise (ENT) and Education (EDU) only on the Learn page consulted.
- OS baseline on Learn — Devices must be running Windows 11, version 24H2 or newer (Learn prerequisite). The optional preview package that newly documents multi-session here is for 25H2 / 26H2.
- Management — MDM (for example Microsoft Intune CSP / Settings catalog) or Group Policy; target devices (device-level policy), not users.
- Opt-in — By default Windows does not remove apps; admins enable the policy and choose apps.
- When removals run — At user sign-in or device provisioning time (Learn also lists OOBE, sign-in after OS upgrade, and sign-in after a policy update). Enabling the policy does not immediately uninstall apps from an already signed-in session.
- While selected — Removed apps remain blocked from reinstallation (Store or sideload) while they stay on the policy list.
- Multi-session note on Learn — Learn also states that the feature now also supports multi-session environments — attribute that overview note to Learn; attribute the October 2026 preview New! packaging to KB5127936.
Do not invent which apps appear on the static list, paste step-by-step Intune screenshots, or claim a hands-on lab. For configuration details, follow the official Learn tabs (Intune / CSP / GPO).
Same KB, different angles (not this article)
The same preview documents many other items that are out of scope as the main angle here. For readers following the same package, TricknFix already covers nearby work:
- Device Info card on Settings Home — separate News article (Device Info Settings Home).
- Memory Integrity / HVCI expansion — same KB, separate security feature (Memory Integrity HVCI).
- Cloud rebuild — same KB, separate recovery feature (Cloud rebuild).
Who gets the preview package, and how optional it is
KB5127936 is a non-security preview for Windows 11 25H2 and 26H2. The App management multi-session item is listed under normal rollout (broad release to eligible devices when it reaches that phase — still an optional preview package overall).
Microsoft also notes that starting with the October 2026 release, Windows 11 version 24H2 no longer receives non-security preview updates. Non-security preview updates are available only for 25H2 and 26H2; 24H2 Enterprise and Education continue to receive monthly security updates but not this class of preview package. Learn’s policy feature itself still lists 24H2+ as the OS baseline for the capability — do not confuse “policy available on 24H2+ managed ENT/EDU” with “this optional preview package ships to 25H2/26H2.”
Typical path documented on the KB page: Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates, then install the available optional update if offered. On a managed PC, ask IT / follow change control before installing an optional preview. Prerequisite and servicing details remain on the KB.
What this article does not cover
Do not treat this page as a full KB5127936 changelog or a complete Intune/GPO cookbook. Taskbar preview animations, Device Info Settings Home, Phone Link Start hover, File Explorer ~, Unicode 17.0, DPAPI, Magnifier, Narrator, BitLocker, Memory Integrity deep-dive, Smart App Control, PowerShell 5.1 shortcut naming, and other items in the same preview are out of scope here (some already have separate TricknFix coverage).
No invented Home/Pro entitlement, no invented static-app inventory, no hands-on lab claims, and no UI screenshots are claimed. Attribute the multi-session New! claim to KB5127936; attribute general policy mechanics to Learn (last updated 2026-05-01 on the fetched page).
