Folder Options in KB5127936: dark mode in File Explorer

Tutorial

Microsoft’s KB5127936 (October 28, 2026 preview; builds 26300.9818 / 26200.9818 for Windows 11 26H2 / 25H2) lists a gradual-rollout [File Explorer] item: it enables dark mode support in the Folder Options dialog in File Explorer.

The same KB notes that Windows 11 24H2 no longer receives non-security preview updates starting with the October 2026 release — so this preview track is about 25H2 / 26H2. Optional path: Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates. Gradual rollout means the change does not arrive on every device at once even after the package is installed.

(Optional distinction, not the main angle:) the same KB also mentions, still under [File Explorer], a more consistent layout for key file information (name, location, date) on the File Explorer search results page — that is not this topic’s focus.

No hands-on File Explorer / Folder Options lab test is claimed here. This topic is not a second long article on Narrator math equations (lot25), Privacy Camera/Microphone/Location grouping (topic 436), or Live Captions Include screen reader audio (topic 435). On a managed PC, ask IT before installing an optional preview.

Question: after KB5127936 (or an equivalent preview), do you see dark mode applied to the Folder Options dialog in File Explorer?
