A player is cheating, harassing you over voice chat, destroying your vehicles over and over or using an abusive name in GTA Online? Rockstar provides an in-game report, which its support describes as the most effective method. This guide explains how to report properly, which category to choose and how to protect yourself in the meantime, on PC and on console.
What to know first
- Prefer the in-game report: according to Rockstar, it is more effective than other methods because it sends more information to identify the player and the session.
- Choosing the right category matters. Rockstar distinguishes, among others: abusive communication, glitching or game-feature abuse, cheating or modding, griefing or disruptive gameplay, offensive player-created content, offensive online IDs, and job content (images, descriptions, text).
- Report as early as possible, while the player is still in your session: they no longer appear in the list once they leave.
- Do not respond to provocation and never share personal information with the player involved.
Step 1: report the player in-game
When to use it: always, first, while the player is in the same session as you.
What it does: the report is sent to Rockstar along with the session information.
Expected result: the game confirms the report was sent. Rockstar then handles the case according to its rules, with nothing more for you to do.
When to stop: once the report is confirmed, move to step 2 if the player keeps going. One report per observed behaviour, with the most accurate category, is more useful than a series of vague reports.
Step 2: protect yourself in the meantime
When to use it: the player keeps targeting you or talking to you after the report.
Expected result: you no longer receive messages from the player and can get back to your game.
Rollback: a block can be removed at any time from your console's blocked players list.
Step 3: report a player who left the session
When to use it: the player no longer appears in the list and you could not report them in-game.
Expected result: your report is recorded by Rockstar Support.
Special cases
- Offensive crew (name, emblem or tag): Rockstar states that a crew is reported from the Social Club crews page.
- Abuse through the console's own system (PlayStation or Xbox private messages, for example): report it to the platform too. On Xbox, see how to report an Xbox policy violation.
- Serious threats, risk to someone's safety or content involving minors: report it in-game under the right category and, if anyone is in danger, contact the relevant authorities.
- You think you were wrongly sanctioned after a report: see GTA Online suspension or ban.
Final check
- ☐ The player was reported from the Pause Menu, Online tab, Players.
- ☐ The chosen category matches the observed behaviour.
- ☐ The player is blocked or muted if needed.
- ☐ No personal information was shared with them.

Still having the problem?
Reply describing the behaviour you saw, your platform and what the game shows when you report. Do not post the reported player's name or screenshots showing IDs: avoid public accusations naming people, reports go to Rockstar.
