This guide covers EA SPORTS FC 27 on PC (EA app, Steam or Epic Games) when the game refuses to start or closes because of EA Javelin anticheat, EA's anti-cheat. EA lists its Javelin troubleshooting page among the "PC" articles of FC 27 support. According to EA, these errors most often come from corrupted files or conflicting background software. The fix therefore depends on the exact message displayed: write it down before changing anything.
This guide does not explain how to get around the anti-cheat and gives no way to do so: the goal is to make the PC compatible with Javelin.
If it is the EA app itself that won't open, first follow the guide EA app no longer launches on Windows (French guide).
Before you start
- Restart the game, then the PC: this is the first step EA recommends.
- Check that the servers are not at fault on the EA server status page.
- EA states that Javelin requires Windows 10 version 20H1 (10.0.19041) or newer. To check your version: Win + R, type winver, confirm.
- Steps 3 and 4 require an administrator account.
| Message or situation | Step to follow |
|---|---|
| Incompatible driver or software (#119) | Step 1 |
| Software "cannot be used at the same time as the game" (reWASD, Daemon Tools…) | Step 2 |
| "EA anticheat Service has encountered an error" or "Please start the game from the EA app" | Step 3 |
| Installer error #701 | Step 4 |
| Error #41 with a Windows Insider build | Step 5 |
| "The application encountered an unrecoverable error" | Step 6 |
Step 1: update or close the reported software
When to use it: the message names a driver (.sys file) or a program. EA explains that this software, or its installed version, is on a denylist for security reasons.
Do not delete a .sys file manually in the Windows folder. Use the official update or uninstaller of the software concerned.
Step 2: software not allowed while playing (reWASD, Daemon Tools)
When to use it: the message says the software cannot be used at the same time as the game, especially reWASD or DiscSoftLTD (Daemon Tools).
Step 3: relaunch the EA app as administrator or reinstall Javelin
When to use it: message "EA anticheat Service has encountered an error" (Javelin can't find the installation folder or can't start the game), "Please start the game from the EA app", or an "invalid system configuration" error.
Rollback: if you uninstall Javelin, EA warns that no Javelin-protected game will be playable until it is reinstalled. Don't use the Uninstall All option without reason: it removes the protection for all EA games.
Step 4: installer error #701
When to use it: only if a message says the anti-cheat couldn't start and the installer then shows error #701. EA attributes it to a Windows file system issue and documents the following command, which resets the file system transaction log.
Step 5: error #41 with Windows Insider
When to use it: only if your PC is enrolled in the Windows Insider Program (Windows 11 preview build). According to EA, error #41 occurs when the installed build doesn't have the renewed Windows Insider certificate.
Step 6: "The application encountered an unrecoverable error"
When to use it: if this message appears at launch. EA links it to expired or unsigned drivers loading when the game starts.
Warning: enabling Secure Boot requires a GPT Windows disk and firmware in UEFI mode. A wrong BIOS setting can prevent the PC from starting. If BIOS Mode shows Legacy, don't change anything before reading the documentation of your motherboard or PC manufacturer. If BitLocker is active, write down your recovery key before touching the BIOS.
Special cases
- Crashes during a match with an Intel processor: EA states that some crashes in Javelin-protected games can come from processor errors. It recommends updating the microcode and keeping the power settings recommended by the manufacturer. Read the documentation from Intel and from your motherboard manufacturer before any BIOS update.
- VPN or proxy: for error #95 ("unacceptable configuration"), EA lists some VPN and proxy software among possible causes. It advises disabling or removing them, and updating hardware-related software (fan control, for example).
- ASUS ROG Ally: for error #95, EA recommends the latest version of Armoury Crate.
Final check
- ☐ The software or driver named in the message has been updated, closed or uninstalled.
- ☐ The EA app is up to date and the game is launched from it.
- ☐ EA Javelin anticheat shows Install success after any reinstallation.
- ☐ EA SPORTS FC 27 starts and stays open until the main menu.
