This guide covers GTA V on PC when your Story Mode progress doesn't appear in GTA V Enhanced. Since the March 2025 PC update, two versions coexist: GTA V Legacy (the original PC version) and GTA V Enhanced, an upgrade that Rockstar announces as free for players who already own GTA V on PC. It is available through the Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam or Epic Games. The two versions have separate saves: Legacy progress does not move to Enhanced automatically. You need to migrate it, and Rockstar only allows this transfer once per account.
For your GTA Online character, the procedure is different: see the "Special cases" section.
Before you start: the rules set by Rockstar
According to Rockstar support (article updated February 27, 2025):
- Migration works only within PC: no transfer from PC to console, or from console to PC.
- Only one save can be uploaded per account. You can replace it as many times as needed until you download it in Enhanced.
- Once the save has been downloaded in Enhanced, no further Story Mode migration is available on that account.
- Progress made afterwards in Legacy is not synced with Enhanced.
- An uploaded save remains available for 90 days. After that, it may be removed and you will need to upload it again.
- Some profiles are not eligible, for example in case of account suspension or ban, or illegitimate or insufficient progress.
The transfer is final: choose carefully which save to upload. It should be your most advanced progress.
The menus below use the English labels documented by Rockstar.
Step 1: check the linked Rockstar Games account
When to use it: always first. Rockstar states that the Rockstar Games account you are signed into must be linked to the PC platform account you use (Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam or Epic Games).
Step 2: upload the save from GTA V Legacy
When to use it: if you haven't uploaded anything yet, or if you want to replace the uploaded save with a more recent one.
Step 3: download the save in GTA V Enhanced
When to use it: after the confirmation in step 2. Choose the method that matches your situation.
If the save is not offered
- Go back to step 1: the simplest cause is a different Rockstar Games account between the two versions.
- Check that the upload in step 2 ended with a confirmation message, and that it is less than 90 days old.
- If you have already downloaded a save in Enhanced, Rockstar states that no new Story Mode migration is possible.
- If the problem persists, contact Rockstar Games support: only they can check the account's eligibility.
Special cases
- GTA Online character: it is migrated separately, from GTA V Enhanced (Online menu, then Migrate Profile). Rockstar specifies that your Online progress is kept in Legacy. See the Rockstar article Migrating your Online Profile from GTAV Legacy to GTAV Enhanced on PC.
- Mods: mods made for GTA V Legacy are not covered by this procedure, and Rockstar does not document their compatibility with Enhanced. Perform the migration with no mods active.
Final check
- ☐ The same Rockstar Games account is signed in for Legacy and Enhanced.
- ☐ The upload from Legacy ended with a confirmation message.
- ☐ The save loads in Enhanced with your missions and progress.
