GTA VI multiplayer, PS4 or PS5 Pro: what the official pages say

Tutorial

Wondering whether Grand Theft Auto VI will have a multiplayer mode at launch, whether it will run on your PlayStation 4, or whether it takes advantage of the PS5 Pro? This guide only gathers what the official Rockstar Games and PlayStation pages show, checked on 27 October 2026. It contains no rumours and no unconfirmed announcements.

Problem

  • You're unsure about pre-ordering GTA VI because you don't know whether it has online play.
  • You own a PS4 or an Xbox One and want to know whether the game will be playable on it.
  • You have a PS5 Pro and see the "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label without knowing what it means.

Multiplayer: what is said, and what isn't

Suggested solution

Before buying to play online

  1. Open the Grand Theft Auto VI page on PlayStation and scroll down to the Grand Theft Auto VI FAQs.
  2. To the question "Does Grand Theft Auto VI have any multiplayer modes or features?", the answer shown is: "Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience."
  3. At the top of the same page, the features list shows 1 player and Offline play enabled.

Expected result: you know that, on the date checked, the official PlayStation page presents GTA VI as a single-player game.

Points to keep in mind:

  • This answer comes from PlayStation's FAQ. The Rockstar Games GTA VI page checked the same day doesn't present any online mode, but it doesn't include an FAQ on the subject either.
  • None of the pages checked announces a version of GTA Online for GTA VI. Don't trust a date or an "online mode" announced by an unofficial website.
  • GTA Online is currently still a game tied to GTA V. For a profile problem on PC, see GTA Online character missing from GTA V Enhanced on PC: migrate your profile.
  • A game's content can change after release. Check the official pages again before a purchase motivated only by online play.

PS4, Xbox One and PC

Suggested solution

Check whether your console is compatible

  1. PS4: the PlayStation FAQ answers that GTA VI "will only be playable on PlayStation 5 consoles" and "will not be available for PlayStation 4 consoles".
  2. Xbox One: on the Xbox side, Rockstar Games announces GTA VI on Xbox Series X/S only. The Xbox One isn't among the announced platforms.
  3. PC: no PC version is announced at this date. The details are explained in GTA VI on PC: what Rockstar has officially announced.

Expected result: you know whether your console is one of the announced platforms. On PS4 or Xbox One, you need a PS5 or an Xbox Series X/S to play GTA VI.

Don't download any "PC version" or "PS4 version" of GTA VI offered by a third-party website: Rockstar Games hasn't announced either.

The "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label

The PlayStation page shows PS5 Pro Enhanced, and the FAQ states a release "for PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro on November 19, 2026". The pages checked don't detail the concrete improvements on PS5 Pro (resolution, frame rate, graphics modes), so they aren't described here.

The same page also lists the PS5 features highlighted: Tempest 3D Audio, fast loading thanks to the SSD, haptic feedback, adaptive triggers and the DualSense controller's built-in speaker.

For editions, pre-loading and the month of GTA+ included with a digital pre-order, see GTA VI boxed copy with no disc: code, editions and pre-order bonuses explained.

Final check

  • ☐ You've read the FAQ on the PlayStation page ("single-player experience" answer).
  • ☐ Your console is a PS5, a PS5 Pro or an Xbox Series X/S.
  • ☐ You haven't downloaded anything from a website promising a PC or PS4 version.
