DLSS Frame Generation missing in GTA V Enhanced: RTX card and driver required

Tutorial

You play GTA V Enhanced on PC with an NVIDIA card, but the DLSS Frame Generation or Multi Frame Generation option does not appear, or stays greyed out? These features are not available on every graphics card: they depend on your GeForce RTX series, the version of GTA V you use, the driver and a Windows setting. This guide summarises the requirements published by NVIDIA and Rockstar Games.

Problem

  • The DLSS Frame Generation option is missing or greyed out in GTA V Enhanced's graphics settings.
  • You see Frame Generation, but not Multi Frame Generation (2X, 3X, 4X).
  • DLSS works, but no Frame Generation option is offered.
  • You are looking for these options in GTA V Legacy.

What to know before acting

  • GTA V Enhanced only: ray tracing, DLSS and FSR are among the new features of the Enhanced version, announced by Rockstar for March 4, 2025. GTA V Legacy does not have these options.
  • An update on August 12, 2025: NVIDIA states that a GTA V Enhanced update added DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation and DLSS Frame Generation, together with the GeForce Game Ready 580.97 WHQL driver released the same day.
  • Compatible cards, according to NVIDIA:
  • Multi Frame Generation: GeForce RTX 50 Series;
  • Frame Generation: GeForce RTX 50 Series and RTX 40 Series;
  • GeForce RTX 20 and 30 Series are not listed by NVIDIA for these two features in GTA V Enhanced. They can use DLSS Super Resolution, introduced at Enhanced's launch for GeForce RTX cards;
  • GeForce GTX cards are not RTX cards and therefore have no access to DLSS.
  • A required Windows setting: NVIDIA's technical documentation states that DLSS Frame Generation is unavailable if Hardware-accelerated GPU Scheduling is not enabled.
  • AMD cards: in February 2025 Rockstar announced support for AMD FSR1 and FSR3 and, in March 2025, Frame Generation "planned for a future date" for both DLSS and FSR. The sources consulted only confirm the arrival of the NVIDIA version.
  • Option names: the sources are in English. Labels in localised versions of GTA V Enhanced's menu may differ.

Step 1: check the game version and the graphics card

When to use it: always, before touching the driver.

Suggested solution

  1. Make sure you launch GTA V Enhanced and not GTA V Legacy (both appear separately in the Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam or Epic Games).
  2. Right-click the taskbar, open Task Manager, then the Performance tab and the GPU entry: your card's model appears in the top right.
  3. Compare with the list above: RTX 50 Series for Multi Frame Generation, RTX 40 or 50 Series for Frame Generation.
  4. On a laptop with two graphics processors, make sure the game uses the GeForce RTX card and not the integrated graphics chip.

Expected result: you know whether your card can show these options.

When to stop: with an RTX 20 or 30 Series, a GTX or an AMD card, the absence of DLSS Frame Generation is normal according to NVIDIA's sources. Use DLSS Super Resolution (RTX cards) or FSR.

Step 2: install a recent NVIDIA driver

When to use it: your card is an RTX 40 or 50 Series, but the option does not appear.

Suggested solution

  1. Open the NVIDIA app and go to the Drivers tab, or download the driver from the official NVIDIA drivers page.
  2. Install a Game Ready driver, version 580.97 or later.
  3. Restart the PC.
  4. Update GTA V Enhanced from your launcher before starting it again.

Expected result: the Frame Generation option appears in the game's graphics settings.

Rollback: if a new driver causes problems, you can reinstall the previous version from the NVIDIA drivers page.

Step 3: enable Hardware-accelerated GPU Scheduling

When to use it: the card and driver are compatible, but the option is still greyed out.

According to NVIDIA's documentation, the setting is found in Windows at this location (labels vary with the Windows version):

Settings > System > Display > Graphics > Change default graphics settings

Suggested solution

  1. Open the location above.
  2. Turn on Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling.
  3. Restart the PC: the change only applies after a restart.
  4. Start GTA V Enhanced again and check the graphics settings.

Expected result: the DLSS Frame Generation option becomes selectable.

Rollback: you can turn this setting off the same way, then restart.

When to stop: NVIDIA requires at least Windows 10 version 2004 (build 19041) for Frame Generation. On an older version, update Windows first.

Special cases

SituationWhat to know
RTX 40 Series without Multi Frame GenerationNormal: NVIDIA reserves Multi Frame Generation for the RTX 50 Series.
RTX 30 SeriesNVIDIA does not list the 30 Series for Frame Generation in GTA V Enhanced. DLSS Super Resolution remains available.
DLSS options missing in LegacyNormal: they only exist in Enhanced. Upgrading to Enhanced is free for Legacy owners.
Card below Enhanced's minimumSteam lists at least a GeForce GTX 1630 or Radeon RX 6400 (4 GB of video memory) and an SSD. Below that, stay on Legacy.
Rockstar mentions ray tracing "with the recommended specifications"The recommended specifications on Steam list a GeForce RTX 3060 or Radeon RX 6600 XT (8 GB).

To choose between the two versions for your PC, see also the guide GTA V Enhanced or Legacy on PC: choosing the version for your hardware.

Final check

  • ☐ You launch GTA V Enhanced, not Legacy.
  • ☐ Your card is a GeForce RTX 40 or 50 Series (50 Series for Multi Frame Generation).
  • ☐ The installed NVIDIA driver is version 580.97 or later.
  • ☐ Hardware-accelerated GPU Scheduling is enabled and the PC has been restarted.
