You play GTA V Enhanced with an AMD Radeon card, but the settings only show FSR 1 or FSR 3, without the AI-based version (formerly FSR 4, now called AMD FSR Upscaling)? That is expected: this version is not enabled from the game menu but from AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition, and only with certain cards and a recent enough driver. This guide covers the requirements published by AMD and Rockstar Games.
What to know before you start
- GTA V Enhanced only: Rockstar announced support for AMD FSR1 and FSR3 with the Enhanced version (announcement of February 21, 2025). GTA V Legacy does not have these options.
- FSR 4 was renamed: AMD states that FSR 4 is now called AMD FSR Upscaling. It is part of the FSR "Redstone" suite, together with FSR frame generation. Some games and menus still show the old name.
- Driver-based activation in GTA V: on AMD's official list, GTA V Enhanced is marked with an asterisk. AMD explains that these games integrate FSR 3.1 and require the driver upgrade feature to get the AI-based version. The game menu therefore keeps showing FSR 3.
- Required cards and drivers, according to AMD:
- Radeon RX 9000 Series: FSR Upscaling and FSR frame generation with Adrenalin 25.12.1 or newer. Driver 25.6.3 had already added GTA V Enhanced to the FSR 4 supported games;
- Radeon RX 7000 and 6000 Series (as well as Ryzen AI Max, Ryzen AI 9 300/400 and Ryzen Z2 Extreme / Z2 A processors): FSR Upscaling only, with Adrenalin 26.10.1 or newer;
- Radeon RX 5000 Series and older cards are not listed by AMD for these AI-based features.
- DirectX 12 required: AMD requires an FSR 3.1 integration under DirectX 12, which is the case for GTA V Enhanced.
Step 1: check the game version and graphics card
When to use it: always, first.
Expected result: you know which features your card is entitled to.
When to stop: with a Radeon RX 5000 Series or older card, or an NVIDIA card, this AMD option is not offered. Use the game's FSR 3 or FSR 1. With a GeForce RTX, see the guide DLSS Frame Generation missing in GTA V Enhanced: RTX card and driver required instead.
Step 2: install a recent enough AMD driver
When to use it: your card is compatible, but the AMD FSR Upscaling option is missing from AMD Software.
Expected result: the AMD FSR settings appear in AMD Software's graphics settings.
Rollback: to go back to an earlier driver version, AMD recommends using the AMD Cleanup Utility before reinstalling the older version.
When to stop: on a laptop, AMD states that its reference driver only offers limited support for manufacturer-specific features. If the installation fails, use the driver provided by your PC manufacturer.
Step 3: enable AMD FSR Upscaling in AMD Software
When to use it: the driver is up to date.
Expected result: the game's FSR is replaced by the AI-based version. The menu may keep showing "FSR 3": this is how AMD describes the behaviour for games marked with an asterisk.
Rollback: turn the settings off in AMD Software, with the game closed, to go back to the original FSR 3.
When to stop: if the game is set to FSR 1 or no FSR, the upgrade does not apply. It relies on the game's FSR 3.
Step 4: FSR frame generation (RX 9000 Series only)
When to use it: you have an RX 9000 Series card and AI-based frame generation does not turn on.
Expected result: FSR frame generation runs with the AI-based version.
When to stop: with an RX 6000 or 7000 Series card, AMD does not plan AI-based frame generation. Only upscaling is supported.
Special cases
| Situation | What to know |
|---|---|
| The game still shows "FSR 3" | Expected for GTA V Enhanced: the AI-based version replaces the game's FSR 3.1 through the driver. |
| RX 6000 or 7000 with a driver older than 26.10.1 | AMD only lists support for these cards (upscaling only) from driver 26.10.1. |
| Crash when switching apps or opening an overlay with FSR frame generation (RX 9000) | Known issue of driver 26.10.1, with in-game V-Sync as a workaround. AMD lists it as fixed in optional driver 26.10.2. |
| GTA V Legacy | No FSR 3 in Legacy, so no upgrade is possible. Moving to Enhanced is free for Legacy owners. |
| Card below the Enhanced minimum | Steam lists at least a Radeon RX 6400 (4 GB of video memory) and an SSD. Below that, stay on Legacy. |
