In EA SPORTS FC 27 (sometimes searched for as "FIFA 27"), your pro in The Grounds progresses through Archetypes. Many players think they need to buy a reset item to fix a poor Attribute allocation, or can't find how to change Archetype in the lobby. According to EA Help, both operations are free, as long as you follow a few rules.
Problem
- You can't edit your Archetype in the lobby before a League Match.
- You want to reset badly allocated Attribute points.
- An Instant AXP consumable can't be used.
- You don't know how to level up an Archetype.

Step 1: change Archetype before a League Match
When to use it: you're in a League Match lobby and the option is unavailable.
Suggested solution
- If you've already selected a position on the pitch, return to the bench: EA states that you must be on the bench to edit your Archetype.
- Go to the Player Management tab.
- Select Archetypes.
- Make your changes.
- Return to the lobby.
Expected result: the new Archetype is active for the match.
Step 2: change Archetype in Rush or Drop-In
When to use it: you're playing Rush or Drop-In.
Suggested solution
- Go to the Archetypes tab.
- Select Archetypes.
- Make your changes.
- Return to the lobby.
Expected result: the chosen Archetype is active. According to EA, you can also adjust your Archetype and equipped items between matches, from supported lobbies, without going back to the main menu.
Step 3: reallocate Attribute points
When to use it: your Attribute allocation no longer matches your position or play style.
Suggested solution
- Open the customisation of the Archetype concerned.
- Lower the Attributes you no longer want: EA specifies that this is done incrementally, Attribute by Attribute.
- Reassign the freed points to the Attributes you want.
Expected result: the new allocation is applied at no cost. No paid reset item or Grounds Coins are needed.
Step 4: Instant AXP consumable can't be used
When to use it: an Instant AXP consumable is greyed out or refused.
Suggested solution
- Check which Archetype is active: AXP is applied to the Archetype that is active when you use it.
- Read the Archetype Level Cap shown on the consumable: it can only be used if your Archetype is below that level.
- If your active Archetype is above that cap, switch to a lower-level Archetype before using the consumable.
Expected result: the AXP is added to the active Archetype. This consumable-specific cap doesn't replace the Archetype's overall level cap.
Special cases
- Amps: they temporarily boost your active Archetype for a limited number of matches. Some have an Archetype Affinity that gives an extra bonus on a matching Archetype (EA article on Amps).
- Mentors: Kylian Mbappé, Chloe Kelly, Paulo Dybala and Alex Hunter offer objectives whose rewards (AXP, Grounds Coins, Amps…) help you level up your Archetypes.
