GTA V Enhanced error code 152 on Epic Games: causes and solutions

English translation of the original French post. Code, commands, paths and error codes keep their original meaning. Replies and moderation are shared in the original discussion.

Did you buy Grand Theft Auto V on the Epic Games Store and, when launching GTA V Enhanced, does the Rockstar Games Launcher show error code 152? This guide only covers the Epic Games copy of GTA V Enhanced on PC: the error means the Rockstar Games Launcher could not confirm with Epic Games that your account owns the game.

The steps follow the Rockstar Support article on this code, checked on 27 October 2026 (article updated on 18 July 2025).

Problem

When launching GTA V Enhanced bought on Epic Games, the Rockstar Games Launcher shows this message (as published by Rockstar):

Plain text3 lines

Failed to verify Epic Games ownership of Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced (Code: 152). Please log into the Epic Games account that purchased Grand Theft Auto V and try again.
  • The game does not start.
  • The message comes back on every attempt.

Where the error comes from

Rockstar states that this issue can be caused by connection errors between the Rockstar Games Launcher and Epic Games servers. The message itself points to one requirement: being signed in to the Epic Games account that purchased GTA V.

Prerequisites

  • A working internet connection.
  • The sign-in details of the Epic Games account that bought the game and of the Rockstar Games account used to play it.
  • Windows administrator rights, only for step 4.

Step 1: check the Epic Games account signed in

When to use it: first, especially if several Epic Games accounts have been used on this PC.

Suggested solution

  1. Close GTA V Enhanced and the Rockstar Games Launcher.
  2. Open the Epic Games Launcher and check which account is signed in (profile icon).
  3. Open the Library and check that GTA V is listed. If it is not, you are probably signed in to the wrong account: sign out and sign back in with the account that bought the game.
  4. Relaunch GTA V Enhanced from the Epic Games Launcher.

Expected result: the game is in the library of the signed-in account and the ownership check succeeds.

When to stop: if the game does not appear on any of your Epic Games accounts, the problem is not the launcher; contact Epic Games support about your purchase.

Step 2: sign out of the Rockstar Games Launcher and sign back in

When to use it: the correct Epic Games account is signed in, but error 152 persists. This is the first solution given by Rockstar.

Suggested solution

  1. Open the Rockstar Games Launcher.
  2. Select your avatar in the top right corner.
  3. In the drop-down menu, select Sign Out.
  4. On the next screen, enter the details of the Rockstar Games account that owns the game.
  5. Relaunch GTA V Enhanced and check whether the error is gone.

Expected result: the game starts without the code 152 message.

Step 3: rule out a service outage

When to use it: the error appeared suddenly, with no change on your side.

Suggested solution

  1. Check the Rockstar Games service status page: look in particular at the Authentication and Rockstar Games Launcher lines of the online services.
  2. Check the Epic Games service status page.
  3. If either reports an outage, wait for it to be fixed before changing your settings.

Expected result: you know whether the error comes from a general outage or from your setup.

Step 4: try other DNS servers (optional)

When to use it: only if steps 1 to 3 did not help. Rockstar suggests this change; it requires administrator rights and applies to the whole network adapter, not just the game.

Suggested solution

  1. Precaution: before changing anything, write down the current DNS settings (usually "Obtain DNS server address automatically"), for IPv4 as well as IPv6.
  2. Open Settings, then Network & internet, and display the network adapters: Advanced network settings then More network adapter options on Windows 11, or Change adapter options on Windows 10.
  3. Right-click the connection in use, then Properties.
  4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), then Properties, and choose Use the following DNS server addresses. Rockstar gives these addresses:
Plain text4 lines

8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
  1. Do the same for Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) with the addresses given by Rockstar:
Plain text4 lines

2001:4860:4860::8888
2001:4860:4860::8844
  1. Confirm with OK, then relaunch GTA V Enhanced.

Expected result: the Epic Games ownership check succeeds.

Rollback: if nothing changes, restore the settings noted in point 1. A DNS change that has no effect does not need to be kept.

Special cases

Final check

  • ☐ The signed-in Epic Games account shows GTA V in its library.
  • ☐ The Rockstar Games Launcher is signed back in with the Rockstar account that owns the game.
  • ☐ No outage is reported by Rockstar or Epic Games.
  • ☐ If DNS was changed with no effect, the original settings have been restored.
