Step 1: find out whether your content needs a code
This is the first thing to check, because much of the bonus content is granted without a code. According to Activision's official bonus content page (updated 10/23/2026):
| Content | Code needed? | When it arrives |
|---|---|---|
| Digital preorder bonus: Hunter Killer Operator Skin, Gilded Pearl Weapon Camo Pack, Inner Circuit M4 Weapon Blueprint | No | In Modern Warfare 4 at launch, after downloading the game |
| Vault Edition: Hostile Alliance and Special Forces Operator Packs, Signature Weapon Collection | No | In Modern Warfare 4 at launch; in Warzone from Season 01 |
| Vault Edition: BlackCell Battle Pass, 1,100 COD Points, 20 Battle Pass tier skips | No | At the start of Season 1, once the Season 01 Battle Pass is available in game |
| Xbox Store offer: gift card ($5 or local equivalent) and Double XP bundle | Yes (Xbox codes) | Notification in the Xbox app, within 35 days of launch |
| Promotional codes (Monster Energy drinks, Call of Duty Shop products, bonus printed in a physical edition) | Yes | After redeeming the code |
Stop point: if you are waiting for the Vault Edition BlackCell Battle Pass, COD Points or tier skips, it is normal not to have them before Season 1 starts. Nothing you do will make them appear earlier.
Special case of Hunter Killer and Gilded Pearl: Activision specifies that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 or Call of Duty: Warzone must be on the preorder platform to get these two items, and that they must be redeemed by October 23, 2027.
Step 2: check the Activision account you are using
Observation: the content has been granted (code accepted, preorder confirmed), but you cannot see it.
Hypothesis: you are playing on a different Activision account from the one that received the content. Modern Warfare 4 stores progression on the Activision account, and Activision specifies that progress does not carry over if you link your PlayStation, Xbox, Battle.net, Steam or Nintendo account to another Activision account.
Check: in the game, open the Activision Account screen (via Options on the home screen) and note the Activision ID shown. Compare it with the account signed in on the code redemption page.
Action: sign back in with the right account. Avoid linking your platform account to a new Activision account "to test": that is precisely what splits progression.
Step 3: redeem a code correctly
Call of Duty codes are redeemed on the Call of Duty redemption page. Activision recommends redeeming them before launching the game. If the game was open during redemption, restart it to receive the items.
The Xbox Store offer codes do not go through this page: they are redeemed in the Xbox app or at xbox.com/redeem.
Preorder bonus in physical editions: Activision states that an issue with invalid preorder bonus codes included in physical editions has been addressed. If your code was rejected, simply try again on the redemption page.
Step 4: understand the error message
| Message | Meaning according to Activision | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| INVALID CODE | The code entered does not match | Make sure you enter the 13-character code exactly as shown on the receipt, insert or packaging |
| CODE ALREADY REDEEMED | This code has already been used for this bonus content | The content should already be in the game: check the account used (step 2) |
| MAX LIMIT REACHED | This account has already received this content with another code | Make sure you are signed in to the right account |
Missing code: if the code should have been on a receipt or in eligible packaging and you do not have it, Activision refers you to the retailer, not to its own support.
Step 5: code accepted but content not visible
- Wait: Activision states that it can sometimes take up to 24 hours for bonus content to appear in game.
- If the game was running when you redeemed the code, quit it completely and launch it again.
- On console, restart the console as well.
- Check that you are signed in to the Activision account that redeemed the code (step 2).
Expected result: the content appears after the delay and the restart. Otherwise, contact Activision Support through the support options, stating the platform, Activision ID, edition purchased and the code or proof of purchase.
About Double XP tokens
Activision sets a limit of 40 hours per Double XP token per account across all promotions, and a maximum of one hour of each token type can be used in game per day. A token that seems "stuck" may simply have reached this daily limit.
