Microsoft’s October 30, 2026 Insider flight brings Beta Build 26220.9836 (per-app camera, microphone and location control for desktop apps, Magnifier shortcut toggle) and Experimental Build 26340.9843, where the new Windows Search gains inline sliders, Phone Link actions, richer results and filters. These are preview features that may change or never ship.

Consulted November 5, 2026 (Europe/Paris). On October 30, 2026, Microsoft released new Windows 11 Insider Preview builds, including Beta Build 26220.9836 (Windows 11 25H2 via enablement package) and Experimental Build 26340.9843 (26H2 track). These are Insider preview features: Microsoft states they may change, be removed, or never reach regular PCs.

Per-app camera, microphone and location access for desktop apps (Beta 26220.9836)

Until now, classic desktop (Win32) apps were governed by a single device-wide toggle. In this Beta build, Insiders can allow or deny access app by app:

  • Go to Settings → Privacy & security → Camera, Microphone or Location.
  • Apps that have never accessed a resource prompt for permission the first time they request it.
  • Existing decisions are preserved: apps already allowed keep access, denied apps stay denied, and no settings are reset.
  • Existing enterprise policies keep working; Microsoft says it is exploring more management options.

Other Beta 26220.9836 changes

  • Security key sign-in: the PIN entry screen drops the “other user” icon.
  • Magnifier: a new toggle in Settings → Accessibility → Magnifier controls whether Windows logo key + Plus (+) launches Magnifier. It stays on by default.
  • Sharper file thumbnails in File Explorer Home’s Recommended section.
  • Narrator math reading in more languages (including Greek, Hungarian, Polish, Russian, Swedish and Vietnamese).

New Windows Search expands (Experimental channels)

The new WinUI 3 Windows Search began rolling out to Experimental Insiders on October 7. The October 30 flight adds, in the Experimental and Experimental (26H1) channels:

  • Inline actions: sliders for volume, screen brightness and cursor size directly in results.
  • Phone actions via Phone Link: call or text and toggle Do Not Disturb. Android now; iPhone “early next year” per Microsoft.
  • Richer results: file previews with last modified date, location and author; web answers (weather, stocks, facts); Microsoft Store apps and games — Store results can be switched off in Settings → Privacy & security → Search.
  • Filters (Files & Folders, Settings, Actions…) and thumbs up/down feedback, plus removing items from the initial view.
Microsoft notes the new Search currently opens at the bottom center of the screen and is being adapted to other taskbar positions. The initial rollout was English-only.

Should you install it?

Only on a test PC. Insider builds carry known issues and a desktop watermark. If you are on stable Windows 11, there is nothing to do: no release date for these features has been announced.

What TricknFix does not claim

  • No date for general availability.
  • No claim that every feature appears on every Insider PC (Microsoft rolls out gradually).
