Overwatch Taking Reign (Nov 3–Dec 7): event rewards and improved gameplay sabotage detection
Blizzard’s November 3, 2026 Overwatch live patch opens Taking Reign through December 7 and improves detection of intentional gameplay sabotage, with Thank You notifications when reports lead to action.
Blizzard published Overwatch Retail Patch Notes – November 3, 2026. Two changes matter most for everyday play: the Taking Reign event window, and clearer action against gameplay sabotage.
TricknFix did not re-test matchmaking or every hero change; the facts below come from the official live patch notes page.
Taking Reign: dates and what Blizzard states
Taking Reign runs 11/3 through 12/7 (3 November–7 December 2026). Blizzard says players can play games and complete challenges for exclusive event rewards, or upgrade for premium rewards such as a Legendary Doomfist skin and a Legendary Vendetta weapon skin. Once purchased, Premium Event Passes can be completed at any time, even after the season or event ends.
The same notes also list other timed activities in November–December (OWCS Cheer Rally, Junkrat’s Loot Hunt with Double XP, Excavation Initiative). Those calendars are separate from the sabotage tooling and should be checked on the live notes or in-client event UI for exact challenge wording.
Gameplay sabotage detection
Under General Updates, Blizzard writes that it is improving tools to combat gameplay sabotage. Detection has been improved to more accurately identify disruptive behaviour, and Blizzard says it has already taken action against many players flagged by these systems.
Examples Blizzard lists:
- consistently and intentionally failing to contribute to team fights;
- repeatedly jumping off the map;
- intentionally blocking team progress.
Blizzard also says it will keep iterating on these methods.
As part of the update, players who report disruptive behaviour can receive ‘Thank You’ messages in the game’s Notification Hub when appropriate action has been taken against the reported player.
This article does not invent ban lengths, appeal steps, false-positive rates, or a public list of sanctioned accounts. Blizzard’s text does not provide those details on the patch-notes page consulted here.
Balance and bug fixes (scope note)
The same 3 November notes include a large midseason hero balance pass and assorted bug fixes. TricknFix is not republishing every hero line here; open the official notes if you need a specific perk or cooldown change. The editorial angle for this page is the event window plus the sabotage / reporting feedback players will notice in queues.
What this patch does not establish
- It does not prove that every intentional thrower will be caught on the first report.
- It does not document how Stadium, Competitive and Arcade queues differ beyond the general live-notes statement that listed balance changes affect Quick Play, Competitive, Arcade and Custom Games.
- No personal win-rate testing was done for this article.
