Google promoted Chrome 157 to Stable on November 3, 2026, with 213 security fixes including several Critical CVEs. Desktop builds roll out gradually.

Google has promoted Chrome 157 to the Stable channel for Windows, Mac and Linux. The Chrome Releases post is dated November 3, 2026. The update rolls out over the coming days and weeks, so not every desktop sees the new build at the same time.

The security note is the practical takeaway for PC users: this Stable update includes 213 security fixes. The advisory lists multiple Critical issues (among them buffer overflows and use-after-free bugs in components such as Dawn, ANGLE, WebGL, Prerender and Geometry) plus a long set of High, Medium and Low CVEs. TricknFix did not independently re-test each CVE; the severity labels come from Google’s advisory.

Which desktop builds are named?

The Stable Channel Update for Desktop names:

  • Linux: 157.0.8103.38
  • Windows / Mac: 157.0.8103.38 / .39

Those version strings identify the Stable promotion described on November 3. They are not a claim that every managed enterprise channel (Extended Stable, or an organisation's pinned version) already carries the same build.

Why update promptly?

A large Stable security batch is meant to close recently reported browser bugs before most users remain on the previous Stable line. Google notes that access to some bug details may stay restricted until a majority of users are updated, and that restrictions can also remain when a bug sits in a third-party library other projects still need to patch.

This article does not claim active exploitation of any listed CVE, a zero-day emergency beyond what Google published, or that Chrome is the only browser that needed a November fix. It also does not invent workarounds such as disabling antivirus, Secure Boot or site isolation.

How to check your version

On a personal PC:

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Open the menu → Help → About Google Chrome (wording can vary slightly by language).
  3. Let Chrome check for updates, then confirm that the reported version is 157.0.8103.x or newer once the rollout reaches your device.
  4. Relaunch if Chrome asks you to.

On a work-managed PC, updates may arrive only through the organisation's deployment tools. Checking "About" still shows the installed version; it does not override IT policy.

After updating, keep normal browsing hygiene. These notes are not a TricknFix laboratory test of every Critical CVE, and they do not prove that every extension, enterprise policy or older OS build is unaffected.

What this release does not establish

The Chrome blog points to the Chromium change log for the broader list of non-security changes and says further Chrome/Chromium feature posts may follow. Do not treat the security advisory alone as a complete feature changelog. Edge and other Chromium browsers follow their own release calendars; this Stable promotion is specifically Google Chrome's desktop Stable channel.
