Excel 2016 KB5002934 reissued: paste failures with conditional formatting fixed in build 16.0.5574.1006 (November 2026)
Microsoft re-released the October 13, 2026 Excel 2016 security update KB5002934 as build 16.0.5574.1006 after build 16.0.5574.1005 reintroduced silent paste failures when a workbook uses conditional formatting. The MSI package is available from Microsoft Update and the Download Center; it does not apply to Microsoft 365 Click-to-Run.
Consulted November 5, 2026 (Europe/Paris). Microsoft’s support article for Excel 2016 security update KB5002934 (originally dated October 13, 2026) now states that the article first described build 16.0.5574.1005, and that the release was updated to build 16.0.5574.1006. The newer build keeps the security fixes and addresses a regression where paste operations might fail if the workbook contains conditional formatting.
Who is affected
- Product: Microsoft Excel 2016 (release/MSI edition).
- Broken build called out by Microsoft: 16.0.5574.1005 (first KB5002934 package).
- Fixed build: 16.0.5574.1006 (reissued KB5002934).
- Symptom (Microsoft wording): paste can fail when the workbook uses conditional formatting; Microsoft also points to the September KB5002665 article for related paste-failure context/workarounds.
- Channel: Microsoft Update, Microsoft Update Catalog, and the Microsoft Download Center standalone packages (x86 / x64). The Download Center page for this KB lists Date Published: 10/29/2026.
Important limit (do not confuse with Microsoft 365)
Microsoft explicitly notes that the Download Center update applies to the Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based edition of Office 2016. It does not apply to Office 2016 Click-to-Run editions such as Microsoft 365. Users on Click-to-Run / Microsoft 365 should use the normal Office update path for their channel, not this MSI KB package.
How to get the reissued package
- Prefer Windows Update / Microsoft Update if Excel 2016 MSI updates are offered automatically.
- Or download the architecture-matching package from the Microsoft Download Center page for KB5002934 (`excel2016-kb5002934-fullfile-x86-glb.exe` or `…-x64-glb.exe`).
- After install, check File → Account → About Excel (or equivalent) and confirm you are on 16.0.5574.1006 or later for this fix line.
- Microsoft publishes SHA256 hashes for both installers on the KB5002934 support article.
Security context (short)
KB5002934 remains a security update for Excel 2016 and lists multiple CVE advisories on the support page. TricknFix does not reproduce exploit details; install for the security fixes and the paste regression fix when you are on the MSI channel.
What TricknFix does not invent
- No claim that Microsoft 365 Current Channel received this exact MSI build number.
- No invented FPS, registry “speed tips,” or unverified third-party “repair tools.”
- No Patch Tuesday November 10 content — this is an Excel 2016 KB reissue, not the November Windows cumulative.
