FC 27 update 1.2.0: five planned changes, but 95-depth fixes remain under investigation
EA targets mid-November for five gameplay changes. Its developer Q&A separately identifies 95-depth defending and near-post shots as investigations, not dated fixes.
EA SPORTS FC 27 Title Update 1.2.0 is targeted for mid-November, according to EA’s October 28 Gameplay Developer Notes. Five areas are announced for that update, including fullback positioning and defending immediately after kick-off. A fix for “95 depth” is not part of the dated promises in those notes.
EA’s subsequently published developer Q&A makes that distinction useful: the gameplay team calls its investigation into 95-depth defending a top priority, but says it is still testing different approaches. For players deciding whether the next patch will change their defensive setup, “under investigation” is not the same as “confirmed for 1.2.0”.
What EA announces for 1.2.0
The planned changes focus on positioning and player selection:
- Fullbacks: hold the defensive line more consistently rather than dropping too deep and unintentionally keeping attackers onside; tracking runs remains necessary when there is a genuine threat.
- Attacking offside awareness: better recognition of the defensive line so attackers time runs more effectively.
- Attacking AI: more purposeful supporting runs and better use of space around the penalty area.
- Kick-off defending: a higher defensive line after kick-off, making direct advances into the box harder to execute without pressure.
- Loose-ball auto-switching: targeted selection fixes after a teammate’s slide tackle, a headed pass and a missed shot.
These are EA’s announced objectives, not improvements independently measured by TricknFix. EA describes the changes as subtle and targeted and explicitly warns that unexpected outcomes can still occur. “Kick-off goal reduction” does not mean kick-off goals will become impossible.
Why 95 depth is a separate issue
In the official Q&A summary, EA says several approaches to 95-depth defending are being actively tested. Defensive approach interacts with the same positioning systems involved in fullback behaviour and offside awareness, so the developers want to avoid undermining those changes or other defensive approaches.
That answer does not announce a stamina nerf, a specific replacement depth value or a release date for a 95-depth adjustment. A player question asking for a change is not an announcement that EA will implement it.
Near-post shots, passing and switching: what is still being studied?
The Q&A also says EA is working on solutions for near-post shots that are too effective from some angles, including shooting and goalkeeper positioning. It promises updates when a timeline exists, not a confirmed 1.2.0 delivery.
Other investigations include unexpected ground-pass receiver movement, lateral through passes targeting a different receiver, and both L1/LB and right-stick switching. EA treats the two manual switching systems separately. Do not confuse that broader work with the three specific automatic loose-ball switching situations announced for the November update.
CPU-controlled Clubs defenders struggling with lobbed through passes, physical challenges between taller and shorter players, and referee decisions are also discussed as work under investigation or testing, not a final patch checklist.
Is the update out, and should you change tactics now?
The official developer notes give mid-November, not an exact launch day or hour. This draft’s source check on November 5 does not establish that 1.2.0 is already available. Wait for the release notice and final platform-specific notes before treating the planned behaviour as live.
There is no need to rebuild a squad around an unannounced 95-depth change. Keep the distinction between promised patch changes and ongoing investigations, then reassess tactics against the final notes and your actual matches. This article does not prescribe a supposedly unbeatable formation.
