Salvage Yard Robberies arrived with GTA Online's The Chop Shop update (December 2023). They are offered by Yusuf Amir and his cousin Jamal, but only to players who own a Salvage Yard. This guide explains how to unlock these robberies, where to start them and what to do with the stolen vehicle.
Problem
- Yusuf or Jamal never offer you a robbery.
- You own a Salvage Yard, but you do not know where to choose a target.
- The target mentioned in a Rockstar news post does not appear for you.
- Tow Truck Service is missing from the menu.
What to know before acting
- A Salvage Yard is required: Rockstar states that owning the Salvage Yard cuts you in on Yusuf and Jamal's robbery plans.
- Targets change every week: Jamal's operation relies on a weekly rotation of target vehicles. A target mentioned in an older announcement may no longer be offered.
- How a robbery works: initial scoping, Preps, Freemode Tasks, then a high-speed Finale.
- In-game names: the official sources read are in English (Salvage Yard, Planning Wall, Tow Truck Service, Maze Bank Foreclosures). Labels in other language versions of the game may differ.
Step 1: buy a Salvage Yard
When to use it: you do not own a Salvage Yard yet.
Suggested solution
- If Yusuf calls you, answer: Rockstar presents this call as the way to get started.
- Open the Maze Bank Foreclosures website on the in-game phone or computer. Rockstar states that a Salvage Yard can be bought directly there.
- Choose one of the five locations offered (from Paleto Bay to Strawberry, according to the launch announcement).
- Upgrades (Trade Rates, Tow Truck, etc.) are optional for launching a robbery.
Expected result: the Salvage Yard appears on your map and you can enter it.
Step 2: choose a target and start the robbery
When to use it: you own the Salvage Yard, but no robbery is in progress.
Suggested solution
- Enter your Salvage Yard.
- Use the Salvage Yard's computer: Rockstar shows the week's targets there.
- Choose a target, then check the Planning Wall: it outlines every step of the operation and the vehicle's whereabouts.
- Complete the scoping, Preps and Freemode Tasks, then start the Finale.
- During the operation, recognize the target vehicle by its custom license plate.
Expected result: the chosen target shows its steps on the Planning Wall, then the Finale becomes available.
When to stop: if the computer offers no target even though you own the property, leave the session and come back once. If nothing changes, contact Rockstar Support with your platform and what the Salvage Yard computer shows.
Step 3: decide what to do with the stolen vehicle
When to use it: the Finale is complete and the vehicle is at your Salvage Yard.
Suggested solution
- Salvage it: put it on the Salvage Yard's lifts; Rockstar states it is then broken down over time for valuable parts.
- Sell it in one go: drop it off undamaged at the docks, where it is shipped to Yusuf in a cargo container, for a lump sum. Rockstar advises not to scratch the paint on the way.
- Keep it: for some special targets (for example The Gangbanger Robbery or The Podium Robbery), Rockstar specifies that you can choose to claim the vehicle. The announcements do not say this is possible for every target.
Expected result: the vehicle is sold, gradually salvaged or added to your vehicles, depending on your choice.
Step 4: enable Tow Truck Service
When to use it: the Tow Truck Service option does not appear.
Suggested solution
- Buy your Salvage Yard's Tow Truck upgrade. Rockstar places it in the Salvage Yard's customization options, on the Maze Bank Foreclosures website.
- Get in the tow truck and select Tow Truck Service from the menu.
- Bring the designated vehicles back to the Salvage Yard: they boost the yard's reputation and passive income.
Expected result: Tow Truck Service is offered when you are in the truck.
Special cases
- Police vehicles: access to buying certain police vehicles also goes through Salvage Yard Robberies. See Police vehicles locked in GTA Online.
- Event bonuses: double payouts, Salvage Yard discounts and Weekly Challenges mentioned by Rockstar (January 2024, March 2026, etc.) have end dates. Check the current week's announcement.
- Platform: the announcements cited were published on the Steam pages of GTA V Legacy and, for the most recent ones, GTA V Enhanced. They do not describe any difference in availability between platforms.
Final check
- ☐ You own a Salvage Yard bought on Maze Bank Foreclosures.
- ☐ The Salvage Yard computer shows the week's targets.
- ☐ The Planning Wall shows the steps for the chosen target.
- ☐ You have chosen between salvaging, selling or, where available, keeping the vehicle.
