Drift Tuning arrived in GTA Online with The Chop Shop update (December 2023), together with Drift Races. It can't be installed in just any garage or on just any car: you have to go through the LS Car Meet and pick a vehicle that Rockstar has made eligible. This guide covers the requirements and the list of vehicles as they appear in Rockstar Games' official announcements.
What to know before you start
- Location matters: every Rockstar announcement introducing newly compatible vehicles places the Drift Tuning installation at the LS Car Meet (in August 2025, Rockstar mentions Hao's Special Works, inside the LS Car Meet).
- The LS Car Meet requires a membership: according to the Los Santos Tuners update announcement (July 2021), the LS Car Meet is a warehouse in Cypress Flats run by Mimi; membership costs GTA$50,000 and gives access, among other things, to the shared Mod Shop and the new race modes.
- Only certain vehicles are eligible: Rockstar adds compatible vehicles in waves. The list below gathers the ones we found in official announcements; it is not necessarily complete (The Chop Shop announcement mentions "seven previously released vehicles" without naming them).
- In-game names: the sources we read are in English (Drift Tuning, Drift Races, Race Organizer). Labels in other language versions of the game may differ.
Step 1: check that the vehicle is eligible
When to use it: the option doesn't appear for a specific car.
What it does: you rule out the most common cause, a vehicle that simply isn't compatible.
Expected result: your vehicle is on the list, or you know it isn't eligible (yet).
When to stop: if the vehicle isn't named in any announcement, there's no point looking further: choose an eligible model.
Step 2: become an LS Car Meet member
When to use it: you've never bought the membership, or you can't get into the LS Car Meet.
What it does: the membership unlocks the LS Car Meet Mod Shop and the members-only races, including Drift Races.
Expected result: you can drive into the LS Car Meet with your car.
When to stop: if you're already a member, go straight to step 3.
Step 3: install Drift Tuning at the LS Car Meet
When to use it: the vehicle is eligible and you're a member.
What it does: Drift Tuning changes the vehicle's handling for drifting; it's the kit Rockstar associates with Drift Races.
Expected result: Drift Tuning is installed on the car.
When to stop: if the option is still missing on a listed vehicle, see the special cases below, especially the game version.
Step 4: start a Drift Race
When to use it: the car is ready but you can't find Drift Races.
What it does: you reach Drift Races, where ranking is based on Drift Points rather than finishing order alone.
Expected result: a Drift Race starts.
When to stop: if no players join the race, try again later or invite friends: the mode is multiplayer.
Special cases
- Very similar names: Rockstar names the Übermacht Sentinel XS (Coupe), not to be confused with the Sentinel XS4 (Sedan) that arrived with A Safehouse in the Hills. Likewise, the Karin Futo isn't the Futo GTX, and the Dominator GT or Dominator FX aren't the Dominator GTT. Only the models named by Rockstar are concerned.
- Game version: Hao's Special Works only exists on some versions of the game. The announcements we read don't say whether the vehicles added in August 2025 can also be modified on the other versions. If you don't see the workshop, see our topic Hao's Special Works absent de GTA Online : versions compatibles et déblocage.
- Vehicles sold "drift-ready": Rockstar has given away the Declasse Drift Walton L35 (Off-Road), a pickup version built for drifting, several times. It isn't part of the lists of vehicles to upgrade above.
- Drift Tuning price: the announcements we read don't give the upgrade's price (only occasional discounts, for example 30% off during the 02/27/2026 event). Check the amount shown in game.
Final check
- ☐ The vehicle is named in a Rockstar announcement about Drift Tuning (exact name).
- ☐ You're an LS Car Meet member.
- ☐ You entered the LS Car Meet with that vehicle.
- ☐ The Drift Tuning upgrade was installed from the LS Car Meet shop.
- ☐ Drift Races start via the Race Organizer or the iFruit.
