Release clause impossible to pay in EA SPORTS FC 27 Career Mode: v1.1 fixes

English translation of the original French post. Code, commands, paths and error codes keep their original meaning. Replies and moderation are shared in the original discussion.

In EA SPORTS FC 27 Manager Career, release clauses had several bugs at launch: a clause impossible to pay for a player from a rival club, an AI club offer that you could decline on the player's behalf, a renewal impossible for a player targeted by a clause. EA fixed several of them in the v1.1.0 update, released on October 27, 2026. This guide explains what is normal, what was a bug, and how to act in each case.

Problem

  • You want to pay the release clause of a player from a rival club, but the operation is impossible.
  • An AI club made an offer matching the release clause of one of your players and you cannot offer him a new contract.
  • You used to be able to decline a release clause offer yourself, and now you cannot.
  • The task linked to a release clause offer does not appear in the Career Central Hub.
  • The club replies that it is not willing to sell, but the game let you send another enquiry straight away.

What to know before acting

  • The principle: according to EA, a release clause allows a player to leave when another club meets the agreed fee. It remains available in FC 27, alongside the new clauses (buyback, first refusal, sell-on).
  • Where to track them: EA presents a new Contracts & Clauses area that gives an overview of your squad's contractual situation, including transfer clauses, bonuses and installment payments.
  • Rivalries matter: EA explains that clubs with a historic rivalry or a local derby are much less willing to do business with each other. A refusal to negotiate can therefore be normal, but being unable to pay a clause for a player from a rival club was a bug, fixed in v1.1.0.
  • The v1.1.0 fixes: paying the release clause of a player from a rival club is now possible; the option that let the manager decline a release clause offer on behalf of the player was removed; you can offer a new contract to a player in your club targeted by a release clause offer from an AI club; the task now shows correctly in the Central Hub; you can no longer send another enquiry to buy straight after a "not willing to sell" rejection.
  • Labels: EA's patch notes are in English. The exact names of screens and buttons may differ in the game depending on your language.

Step 1: install the v1.1.0 update and save

When to use it: always first.

Suggested solution

  1. Fully close EA SPORTS FC 27 and let your platform install the latest update.
  2. Launch the game again and load your Manager Career.
  3. Make a manual save before any major transfer operation.

Expected result: your Career runs with the v1.1.0 fixes, and you can go back if an operation goes wrong.

When to stop: if no update is offered, check the EA server status and try again later.

Step 2: check the target player's clause

When to use it: you want to sign a player by paying his release clause.

Suggested solution

  1. Open the player's profile and look at his contract.
  2. Check that he does have a release clause and note the amount.
  3. Compare this amount with your transfer budget.

Expected result: you know whether the clause exists and whether your budget can cover it.

When to stop: without a clause, you need to negotiate a standard transfer. In that case, see Transfer rejected or stuck in EA SPORTS FC 27 Manager Career: staged negotiations.

Step 3: pay the clause of a player from a rival club

When to use it: the player belongs to a rival of your club and paying the clause was blocked.

Suggested solution

  1. Check that v1.1.0 is installed (step 1).
  2. Start the purchase process for the player again and choose the option to pay the clause.
  3. Once the clause is paid, continue with the player's contract negotiation.

Expected result: the clause payment is accepted, even if the selling club is a rival.

When to stop: if payment is still impossible with v1.1.0, reload your manual save and try once more. If the block persists, report it (see the end of the guide).

Step 4: respond when an AI club pays the clause of one of your players

When to use it: an AI club has made an offer matching the release clause of a player in your squad.

Suggested solution

  1. Check the task linked to this offer in your Career Central Hub (its display was fixed in v1.1.0).
  2. Keep in mind that the principle of the clause is that the decision belongs to the player: since v1.1.0, you can no longer decline the offer on his behalf.
  3. If you want to keep him, offer him a new contract: v1.1.0 fixed the bug that prevented this in this situation.

Expected result: the offer and its follow-up appear in the Central Hub, and you can offer the player a renewal.

When to stop: EA does not say whether a new contract prevents the player from leaving or changes his clause. Do not count on a renewal to block a transfer that has already been triggered.

Step 5: respect a "not willing to sell" rejection

When to use it: your enquiry to buy received a reply saying the club is not willing to sell.

Suggested solution

  1. Do not try to send another enquiry straight away: v1.1.0 removed this possibility, which was a bug.
  2. If the player has a release clause, use the clause payment instead (steps 2 and 3).
  3. Otherwise, target another player or wait for another transfer window.

Expected result: you use a route the game accepts instead of piling up rejected enquiries.

Special cases

SituationWhat to know
Rival club refusing to negotiate a standard transferBehavior intended by EA in FC 27: historic rivalries, derbies and regional rivalries hold back transfers.
Loan counter offer with a loan-to-buy clauseEA also fixed in v1.1.0 an exploit that let you get an AI club to agree to a very low transfer fee.
Negative budgetBefore v1.1.0, a player could only be sold if the sale brought the budget back into positive. This bug is fixed.
Player CareerThese fixes concern Manager Career.

Final check

  • ☐ The game is on v1.1.0 or later.
  • ☐ A manual save exists before the operation.
  • ☐ The player's clause and its amount have been checked.
  • ☐ The task linked to a release clause offer appears in the Central Hub.
