With Modern Warfare 4 Season 1, scheduled for November 6, 2026 at midnight ET (6:00 a.m. Paris time), Call of Duty: Warzone changes how it handles weapons from older games. A Black Ops 6 weapon can no longer be edited in Gunsmith? Your custom loadouts are gone, or one of your blueprints is locked? It isn't a bug. Activision describes this behavior in its official announcements. This guide explains what changes, what you keep and how to get usable weapons back.
These symptoms apply to Season 1 and later. Before November 6, the rules of previous seasons still apply.
What to know before you act
- What Activision announced: in the official Season 1 article, Activision says Modern Warfare 4 weapons provide "the full weapon experience", while all weapons from Modern Warfare II through Black Ops 7 remain accessible in the Legacy tab of the Loadout menu.
- What Legacy weapons no longer support: they are still usable, but they cannot be edited in Gunsmith. They don't support Mastery Camos, Reticle Challenges, Weapon Customization, Cosmetic Gunsmithing, or Build Sharing & Build Codes.
- What replaces them: each Legacy base weapon gets a five-attachment version. Blueprints for Legacy weapons remain available with their existing attachment setups. These versions and blueprints are initially locked: you unlock them with Player XP in the Armory.
- Your old loadouts: Activision states that prior Custom Loadouts are not supported for Legacy weapons and Legacy blueprints.
- Camos: Activision published a correction in its September 24, 2026 article. Unlike the first version of that article, weapon camos from legacy titles are not available in Warzone.
- What you keep: Operators, Operator Skins and Weapon Blueprints from those four games. You also keep Calling Cards, Emblems, Operator Finishing Moves, Emotes, Sprays, Parachutes and Contrails.
- On-screen names may vary: the in-game menus may use slightly different terms from this guide.
Step 1: check whether your weapon is a Legacy weapon
When to use it: always, first.
Expected result: you know whether the limit comes from the weapon's Legacy status.
When to stop: if a Modern Warfare 4 weapon can't be edited either, this guide doesn't match your case. Note the weapon and the message shown, then describe them in this topic.
Step 2: unlock the five-attachment version or your Legacy blueprint
When to use it: the Legacy weapon or blueprint you want to use is locked.
Expected result: the weapon's five-attachment version, or your blueprint with its existing attachments, can be selected in a loadout.
When to stop: in these articles, Activision doesn't publish how much XP is needed or the unlock order. If a blueprint you owned doesn't appear in the Armory at all, check step 5 (Activision account) first before reporting the problem.
Step 3: rebuild your custom loadouts
When to use it: your old loadouts are gone, or you can't find your usual setup.
Expected result: you have complete loadouts to play with again.
Rollback: Activision doesn't offer a way back to the old loadouts. You can replace the weapon in a loadout with another one at any time.
When to stop: build codes don't work with Legacy weapons. Don't waste time importing codes for those weapons.
Step 4: understand what happens to your camos and your level
When to use it: your camos are gone, or your player level is back at the start.
Expected result: you know which changes are planned and which aren't.
When to stop: if your Operators, skins or blueprints are missing, that isn't planned: go to step 5.
Step 5: check your Activision account if content is really missing
When to use it: Operators, skins or blueprints from older games are gone, even though Activision says they remain available.
Expected result: you're playing with the same Activision account as in previous games, and your content is back.
When to stop: Activision only allows unlinking a platform account once every 12 months. Don't unlink anything unless you're sure which account to keep. According to Activision, nothing is lost: relinking the platform to the original account restores your progress and content.
Special cases
| Situation | What to know |
|---|---|
| Other players all appear as Modern Warfare 4 Operators | That's the new Operator Skin Toggle. When it's on, it replaces, for you only, Operators from other games with Modern Warfare 4 Operators. It only changes what you see, not your own Operator. According to Activision, it is off by default: turn it off in the options if you want to see the real skins. |
| You play on PS4 or Xbox One | According to Activision, Warzone will no longer be playable on these consoles from Season 1. Your progression carries over to PS5, Xbox Series X|S or PC if you use the same linked Activision account. |
| The Modern Warfare 4 weapon refuses changes too | That isn't the Legacy weapon limit. Restart the game and make sure it's up to date, then describe the problem in this topic. |
| The game is stuck on "Connecting to online services" | See the guide Call of Duty Warzone on PC stuck on "Connecting to online services" (French guide). |
